PAK vs BAN: Shaheen Afridi Scripts History; Becomes Fastest Pacer To Pick 100 ODI Wickets
Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi achieved a historic feat as he became the fastest pacer to take 100 wickets in the history of the ODIs. The left-arm pacer became the overall third-fastest to achieve the feat in the 50-over cricket.
Shaheen Afridi achieved the feat in the ongoing match 31 of the ICC World Cup 2023 against Bangladesh. The match between the two Asian heavyweights is taking place at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. It’ll be a crucial game for both teams in the context of the points table.
Pakistan were asked to bowl first and Shaheen Afridi took them off the flier. The fast bowler removed Tanzid Hasan on the 5th ball of the over and completed the 100 wickets in ODIs. He trapped the batter in lbw and gave a dream start to his team in Kolkata.
Afridi took 51 innings to take 100 ODI wickets. He surpassed Mitchell Starc’s tally of 52 innings to achieve the feat. The pacer also surpassed Shane Bond (54), Mustafizur Rahman (54) and Brett Lee. After removing Tanzid Hasan, he also sent Najmul Hossain Shanto packing as well.
Shaheen Afridi removed the left-hander in his second over as he was caught at short mid-wicket. The Pakistan pacer is amongst the leading wicket-takers in the tournament. He struggled initially to get going in the tournament but now has regained his form and will be vital for his team.
Pakistan are under the scanner in the ICC World Cup 2023. They have lost four back-to-back games in the tournament and are on the verge of elimination. For them to stay in contention, they need to win this game. Shaheen Afridi would have to play an important role if men in Green need to stay in contention.

Afridi became overall the third fastest to achieve 100 ODI wickets. Sandeep Lamichhane is the fastest to achieve the feat as he did in 42 innings. Rashid Khan is second on the list, having achieved the feat in 44 innings
