New Delhi, Sports Desk. Timed Out Rule in Cricket. November 6, 2023 will be no less than a nightmare for Sri Lankan team batsman Angelo Mathews. Sri Lanka is facing Bangladesh in the 38th match of the ODI World Cup 2023 being played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

In this match, a strange incident was seen in the 25th over of the Sri Lankan team’s innings. This over was bowled by captain Shakib Al Hasan for Bangladesh and Sadira Samarawickrama was caught out on the second ball.

After this, Angelo Mathews came to the crease as the new batsman, but due to not bringing the correct helmet, he asked for another helmet from the substitute player at the crease.

During this, Shakib took advantage of the opportunity and appealed to the on-field umpire for time out. During this, both the on-field umpires agreed with Shakib and called Angelo Mathews time out.

Timed Out Rule: Know what is ‘Time Out’ rule?

As per MCC rules,

“After the fall of the wicket or the batsman retiring hurt, the incoming batsman has to come to the crease and play the ball within 3 minutes, but if this is not possible then the opposing team can appeal for time out for the batsman. And the umpire can declare the new batsman out.

Angelo Matthews out as soon as he stepped on the field, know the whole story

Let us tell you that after the dismissal of Sadira in the 25th over of the Sri Lankan team ‘s innings, Angelo ( Angelo Mathews ) was coming to the crease as the new batsman, but while tightening the strap of his helmet, it broke.

Because of this, before reaching the crease, Mathews signals his teammates to order a new helmet and during this time time is wasted. Seeing too much time being wasted, Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan asks the umpires to give time out.

During this time the umpire approaches Shakib that you are right, I want to do this, then Shakib answers laughing. In this way, as soon as Angelo Mathews steps on the field, he is called time out after being one minute late. During this, Angelo explained the reason for arriving late, but the umpires did not listen to him and as per the rules, dismissed him without playing any ball.
